2019 Vespidae

Three years in, this 2019 is still fresh and primary, only beginning to unwind. The structure of the wine, with its linear acidity, slightly sandy tannins and layers of earthy complexity, suggest that it will happily last a decade.

2019 vintage reviews

2019 St. Dolores Estate Willlamette Valley Pinot Noir:

“Shimmering ruby-red. Pungent red and dark fruit liqueur, candied rose, exotic spices and woodsmoke aromas show fine delineation and a musky hint of licorice. Palate-staining, impressively concentrated black raspberry, cherry preserve and spicecake flavors open up through the midpalate, taking on smoky mineral and floral nuances and showing gently chewy texture. Rich and broad, but there’s energy here as well. Finishes extremely long, with powerful, floral-driven thrust and talc-y tannins that fold smoothly into the wine’s energetic fruit. – 95 pts”

2018 vintage reviews

2018 St. Dolores Estate Willlamette Valley Pinot Noir:

Glistening ruby-red. Powerful aromas of ripe red berries, cherry pit, candied lavender and smoky minerals, plus a touch of licorice in the background. Sweet and youthfully taut in texture, offering densely packed black raspberry, boysenberry and cherry cola flavors that show fine definition and pick up a spicy topnote with air. Shows impressive breadth as well as energy and finishes extremely long, with building tannins and a lingering blue fruit preserve quality. All used French oak. – 95 pts”
